David Castillo, the co-intellectual mastermind who wants to evade justice

The Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras COPINH, together with the legal team of the Berta Cáceres cause, communicates the following to national and international press:

Today, the defense of Mr. David Castillo has presented a recusal against the Tribunal that is hearing the case for the murder of Berta Cáceres. This is another delaying maneuver in the legal process that is being developed by the defense team of one of the perpetrators of the crime.

COPINH and the Caceres Family express the following:

1. We reject the dilatory maneuvers throughout the legal process by the defense and family of Mr. David Castillo. Their objective is to obstruct and deny justice and truth to the victims.

2. We consider David Castillo to be member of a criminal network that planned, coordinated and executed the murder of our comrade Berta Cáceres, who must be tried and sentenced with all the guarantees of the process and applying the full weight of the law.

3. The legal team, COPINH and the Caceres Family demand that the Judiciary remove all the dilatory obstacles being promoted by the defense and carry out the oral and public trial in a prompt manner to guarantee the victims and society the right to truth, justice and measures of non-repetition, within a reasonable period of time. Reason and truth are behind us.
