COPINH 25 años de lucha por la vida y la justicia.

25 años de organización no se escriben ni se viven fácilmente, la historia del COPINH ha sido la historia de 25 años de superar enormes obstáculos y así mismo de obtener victorias gigantescas. La mera existencia del COPINH es una afrenta al sistema, al capital y a los intereses mezquinos de poderosos y es por ello que 25 años de vida en resistencia son una victoria fundamental.
Hace 25 años el mundo veía cómo el cambio de época significaba la radicalización de los despojos, la institucionalización del abuso y la toma por parte de los poderosos de siempre por la opción del abandono del pueblo a la barbarie del oprobio. Se experimentaba cómo la desesperanza era la bandera del momento y el triunfo de los hegemonismos excluyentes eran de la oligarquía. Se pregonaba el fin de las alternativas y la victoria del pensamiento único de los Estados y los dueños de los gobiernos y del imperialismo.
En ese contexto nació el COPINH, para darle voz a las voces acalladas y para reivindicar el pueblo Lenca tantos siglos invisibilizado y olvidado. Para demostrar que en medio del panorama más complicado siempre la alternativa es y será la lucha, la reivindicación y la incansable búsqueda de la revolución. Nació esta organización con el objetivo de articular y trabajar en y con las comunidades más abandonadas por la larga historia de despojo y colonización de Honduras, para desde ahí, desde la raíz de nuestras sociedades, encontrar, construir y reconstruir las alternativas de vida; para superar la larga historia de letargo.
Para celebrar estos históricos 25 años nos reunimos centenares de personas en el centro de encuentros y amistad “Utopía”. Nos juntamos las distintas comunidades en lucha con nuestras organizaciones hermanas y aliadas. Buscando rememorar las formas en las que se han conseguido las victorias y en las que hemos superado los desafíos y las adversidades.
Sobre todo nos juntamos para hacer homenaje a la lucha de una organización que no sería tal sin el legado de nuestra compañera Berta Cáceres. Recordamos su fuerza, así como las perversas fuerzas que quisieron destruirla a ella y con esto al COPINH, y celebramos que a 2 años de su muerte el COPINH sigue vivo y reivindicando las luchas que ella nos enseñó. Con la alegría de saber a Berta en el aire de todas nuestras acciones y acompañándonos en cada momento y cada decisión.
El COPINH a 25 años de existencia reafirma el compromiso fundamental de la defensa de los territorios y de la vida, por la lucha diaria de la construcción de un mundo en armonía y con dignidad, en el que los pueblos indígenas ejerzamos nuestro poder como pueblos originarios.
Así, fieles al espíritu libertador e insurreccional de las ideas fundacionales de hace un cuarto de siglo dieron paso a nuestra organización, y reconociendo nuestra historia y los legados fundamentales; reconociendo a la solidaridad entre los pueblos como la principal arma de resistencia y construcción; reconociendo la cosmovisión, la identidad y la espiritualidad Lenca como fuerza protectora fundamental y reconociendo todas nuestras identidades como organización popular, indígena, antipatriarcal, anticapitalista, diversa y en resistencia
El COPINH proclama:
- Reivindicar de la acción y el pensamiento de la compañera Berta Cáceres como guía fundamental para la acción organizativa y emancipatoria del COPINH.
- Desafiar de manera integral el proyecto dictatorial que se impone en Honduras hasta su derrota, desde la visión y cosmovisión de las comunidades indígenas y Lencas.
- Enfrentar de manera directa, desde los territorios, al modelo extractivo y de despojo en contra de los bienes comunes comunitarios.
- Luchar de manera incansable para lograr nuestra justicia en el caso de la compañera Berta Cáceres, develando las estructuras que descansan detrás de su asesinato.
- Trabajar en la construcción cada vez más sólida y comprometida de la base comunitaria consciente, beligerante y en resistencia.
- Construir desde todos nuestros espacios; comunitario, organizativo y de articulación, las relaciones de vida y resistencia alternativas para luchar en contra del sistema de dominación estructural que se impone.
- Reivindicar y fortalecer las formas de lucha populares de la comunicación popular, la movilización permanente y las acciones directas de control territorial.
- Acoger el llamado a la unidad de las organizaciones de base y a la articulación efectiva del movimiento social y popular hondureño.
- Reafirmar el carácter popular, indígena, comunitario, solidario y anti imperialista de nuestra lucha.
- Radicalizar las formas de resistencia acorde con las circunstancias actuales de nuestro contexto.
A estos 25 años de existencia debemos hacer un saludo especial a toda la solidaridad militante, las organizaciones y movimientos solidarios del mundo que nos han acompañado y nos acompañan en el sueño común de cambio y reivindicación. A los pueblos hermanos del continente latinoamericano, a los pueblos y organizaciones en las entrañas del monstruo, a los pueblos resistentes del oriente, a los pueblos negros y afrodescendientes del mundo. A las juventudes luchadoras y a las hermanas organizadas, el abrazo desde la esperanza.
¡Berta vive, el COPINH sigue!

COPINH’s 25th Anniversary Declaration
COPINH: 25 years of struggle for life and justice
25 years of organizing are not easy to write nor to live. COPINH’s history is the history of 25 years of overcoming enormous obstacles and yet obtaining tremendous victories. COPINH’s existence itself is an affront to the system, to capital, to the narrow interests of the elite and that is why 25 years of life in resistance are themselves a fundamental victory.
25 years ago the world was witnessing how changing times meant the radicalization of plunder, the institutionalization of abuse and a choice by the same old powerful elite to scornfully and barbarically abandon the people. People were living through a time whose banner was hopelessness amidst the apparent triumph of the oligarchy and its exclusive hegemony. They announced the demise of any alternative and the sole victory of the worldview of the U.S., government’s rulers and of imperialism.
In this context, COPINH was born to give voice to the voiceless and fight for the resurgence of the Lenca people after centuries of erasure and invisibility, to demonstrate that in the midst of the most complicated of situations the way forward is and always will be struggle, resurgence, and the unyielding search for revolution. This organization was born with the objective of linking together and working with the communities most abandoned by the long history of plunder and colonization in Honduras, in order to, from there, from the roots of our societies, find, build and re-build alternative lives, to move beyond a long history of stagnation.
To celebrate these historic 25 years, hundreds of people gathered in the “Centro de Encuentros y Amistad ‘Utopía’” (Utopia Center for Gathering and Friendship). We brought together the various communities in struggle with our sister organizations and allies in order to remember the ways they have achieved victories and overcome challenges and adversities.
Above all, we gathered to pay homage to the struggle of an organization that would not be what it is were it not for the legacy of our sister Berta Cáceres. We remembered her strength, as well as the perverse forces that wanted to destroy her and thereby do away with COPINH, celebrating that two years after her death COPINH is still alive and continues to lift up the struggles that she taught us to wage. We have joyfully felt Berta in the air surrounding all of our actions, accompanying us in every moment, in each decision.
COPINH, after 25 years of existence, reaffirms the fundamental commitment to defend our territories, to defend life itself, to struggle daily to build a world of harmony and dignity in which we as indigenous peoples exercise our power as original peoples.
Therefor, consistent with the liberatory and insurrectional spirit and foundational ideas that gave birth to our organization a quarter century ago, in recognition of our history and principal legacies, of solidarity between peoples as the main weapon of resistance and construction, of the Lenca worldview, identity and spirituality as a fundamental protective force, and of our identity as an indigenous, anti-patriarchal, anti-capitalist, diverse people’s organization in resistance, COPINH declares:
We will lift up the action and thought of sister Berta Cáceres as the fundamental guide for organized and emancipatory action by COPINH.
Based in our vision and worldview as indigenous and Lenca communities, we will wholeheartedly confront the dictatorial project being imposed on Honduras until it is defeated.
We will directly confront, from our territories, the model of extraction and plunder of our communities’ communal goods.
We will struggle tirelessly for justice in the case of sister Berta Cáceres, exposing the structures that are behind her assassination.
We will work to build an ever-more solid and committed community base that is conscious, combative and resilient.
From within our community, organizational and alliance spaces we will build alternative relationships rooted in life, resistance and struggle against the i mposition of the system of structural domination.
We will reclaim and strengthen our practices of grassroots struggle and communication, permanent mobilization and direct action to exercise territorial control.
We embrace the call for unity among grassroots organizations and the effective alliance of the Honduran grassroots social movement.
We re-affirm our struggle to be grassroots, indigenous, community-based, anti-imperialist and rooted in solidarity.
We will radicalize our forms of resistance in accordance with the current circumstances of our context.
After 25 years of existence, we especially wish to salute all of the militant solidarity from organizations and solidarity movements around the world who have been by our side and continue to accompany us in pursuit of the common dream of change and liberation. To our sister peoples of the Latin American continent, to the people and organizations in the belly of the beast, to the peoples in resistance of the East, to the black and Afro-descendant peoples of the world, to the youth fighters and organized sisters, we send you a warm embrace from La Esperanza.
Berta is alive, COPINH thrives!
