The decision of the order to have the trial against David Castillo is a step in the search for justice, truth, reparation and non-repetition for COPINH, Berta Cáceres’ family and the Lenca people.

Impunity hangs over the search for justice. Great economic and political powers seek to keep the truth of the crime against Berta Cáceres silent and to keep hidden the intellectual authors, thus concealing the crimes against the Lenca people.

David Castillo, carried out the role of being the link between the assassin group and the intellectual authors, the Atala Zablah family–who is responsible for ordering the crime against Berta Cáceres, the attacks on COPINH and the community of Río Blanco.

It is necessary that David Castillo be tried and punished as the co-author of the crime against Berta Cáceres and that immediate progress be made in the prosecution of all the intellectual authors. The Public Ministry has all the necessary evidence for this.

We are grateful for the support and permanent observation of the people who are organized and national and international organizations that have been the only guarantee to begin the process of justice in this case, in a country where corruption and impunity reign.
